I'm babysitting 2 ferrets and the older female (5 yrs) has been
lethargic for the past few days. They sleep so much I wasn't worried.
But today, it seems like she is suffering from hind leg paralysis
and, although trying to eat, does not seem to have the energy. In the
last few days, she may have been drinking more. I am taking her to
the vet this afternoon after work but can anyone give me an idea of
what she may be suffering from?

Make sure you take her to a ferret knowlegable vet and not a "regular"
vet. They may mean well and try to be helpful but they usually miss
really obvious things that a ferret vet would know instantly.

The female sounds like she could be suffering from insulinoma, an
obstruction, or poisoning, all of which could be life threatening if not
treated asap. But without a thorough checkup there's no way to know if
it's that or something else.

Best of luck with the vet. Taking her to a good ferret vet immediately
is the best thing to do.

Good luck.

It sounds like it could be insulinoma. That means your ferret needs vet
care. Do a search on insulinoma and you will find many resources that
you can use to help your ferret immediately. Please do this as soon as
possible because every episode of low blood sugar does some kind of
damage, including neuro/brain damage.
